While Riding in Cars with Film, I’m usually going to and from a doctors appointment. In this case, these photos were taken on our way home from my Chiropractor. I’m usually experiencing pain in my neck and right arm, so it hasn’t been easy taking photos out of the window lately.

Lately I have been trying out Ilford XP2 400 film for this project. It can be shot up to 800 ISO without compensating in developing time. ISO 800 seems to be the sweet spot for me when shooting from the car because it allows me to use fast shutter speeds, but doesn’t add a ton of grain from pushing it like other black and white films I’ve used. That is because it doesn’t require that push in processing.

The drive from the chiropractor to our home is far depending on which way we take. The scenery changes pretty drastically as we drive from one town to the next. In the town where the doctor is, there’s boats and a lot of office buildings. The route we took this day took us through a part of town that I actually lived when I was three years old that is a poor area.

Here we see a lot of people walking and biking places because gas prices make it impossible to use their car. At this point gas prices hadn’t even hit the high its at now and it wasn’t even that long ago.

Final Thoughts
I’m really enjoying this project, but also kind of saddened from it. Seeing the changes to my town has been tough. I don’t like seeing people struggling and I don’t like seeing the neglect and decay that the government here has allowed to overtake it.
Sometimes I feel helpless, and maybe you can identify with this feeling. That’s why I feel like this project is something I at least have in my power to do. I don’t know what it will develop into but I hope you’ll enjoy the ride with me while Riding in Cars with Film.
